ART ON BLOCK

Art on Block. Fun. Real. Moments.

Ben Lenovitz is the man behind these blocks of art. He finds his inspiration "
from museums, vacations and the subway." His drawings capture moments in time. He transfers his designs onto wood and cutting them out gives them their form. He has seven categories…text, animals, chickens, landscapes, characters, limbs, and scenes. I have two stand out favourites; chicken and limbs! That said, some of the "text" pieces are a real laugh too, check out arm hair below.

I found a large range of Ben's work at Fish Eddy a quirky homewares store in the Flatiron district. Go down and check them out. I'm wishing I bought one, I just couldn't decide which one!

SOCKERBIT

Sockerbit is a Scandinavian lolly (candy) shop, and best of all they are good for you! Well perhaps not exactly good for you, but they are made with high quality ingredients; free of transfats, synthetic colours, and genetically modified ingredients. Make you want to eat them? Me too. I was drawn in by the beautifully simple design of the store which was inspired by the "sugar cube" marshmallow...saw that they were "healthy"...and scooped up a bag. Deeeeelicious!

Then I learned a little about the lolly (Smagodis) culture in Scandinavia. I had no idea they were mad lolly eaters…"smågodis is part of their everyday life; and most of the Swedes grew up with the tradition of "lördagsgodis", meaning Saturday sweets. Every Saturday children are allowed to buy their favorite smågodis as a weekend treat and it is usually the highlight of the week."

And it doesn't end there… look at all those gorgeous colours, shapes and wrappers!

WORDS

Surprise! I have something very different for you today. These words came to me after meditation this morning and they feel so inspired that I just had to share them. This is how Luxembourg greeted me last year, and I think it makes the perfect backdrop for these words. It strikes me that true success is being our best selves, all the other stuff comes from this place of inspired peace from within. Let's do everything we can to get here and help our world change exponentially…………………………………...

THE SPRING STREET GROCER

Who doesn't love unique places, spaces and things? It's not very often that you find all of this in the one place, but The Spring St Grocer has it all. Sometimes I go there just because I can, I like to see what they have and inevitably end up with a fresh cold pressed juice, sweet treat or scrumptious Gelato. I tend to have the green juice, but shake it up with the rest. Last favourite sweet treat was the plum slice (how good was that Bec?) and coconut and strawberry gelato - crazy good - I can still taste it now.

As for the place itself, it's retro yet contemporary, colourful yet stable, and infinitely interesting. The grocery space is filled with quality food locally sourced and produced, as well as must have goodies from around the world. They stock their own brand of "nutrient rich, delicious" take home meals V.Primavera all developed and prepared in the kitchens of The European. What's not to love about that?

Then there is the space that quite simply must be seen, and that's the underground cheese cellars, complete cheesemonger - Anthony. You'll find a wide selection of farmhouse and artisan cheeses from both Australia and abroad, changing regularly to reflect seasonal availability. You can even book the basement space for private cheese themed events. If you happen to be a cheese lover, you could only describe this as pure heaven right?

KESTER BLACK

CRUELTY FREE. VEGAN. MADE IN AUSTRALIA.

I love Kester Black's product and words so much I feel drawn to share it all with you. An Australian with social and environmental principals so strong that she created a range of nail polish and soap products to meet them and provide herself (and us) with "trend driven cosmetics that are ethically driven." Read her words and more importantly get your hands on her products. Fabulous!

KESTER BLACK.
"Being an ethical consumer, I believe in the importance of moral purchasing decisions. That is why when I began researching environmentally friendly nail polish and soap brands, I was concerned by the lack of cruelty free and carbon neutral options available. While I did find a few Green alternatives, I was uninspired by the limited selection of colours and frangrances.

It was then that I decided that rather than accepting this lack of choice, I would seek to fulfil my own needs, and those of the many other Australian consumers who are both morally and style conscious. I resolved to create an all-Australian brand that provided professional quality products which did not compromise my social and environmental principles.

Kester Black is proudly Australian made and owned and is committed to supporting local business. We use sustainable production methods including the use of recyclable materials and small batch manufacturing to minimise wastage. Our products contain only the highest quality ingredients and all have CCF (Choose Cruelty Free), and Vegan Society accreditation.

When you make a purchase with Kester Black you are also purchasing our guarantee that none of our products or ingredients have ever been tested on animals either by our company; by anyone on our behalf or by any of our suppliers. We are also a vegan company; none of our products contain any ingredient derived from animals.

Our high shine, chip-resistant nail polish follows the “Five Free Formula” meaning it contains no Toluene, DBP, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin or Camphor. Alongside our polishes, we are proud to offer a deeply nourishing, triple-milled soap range. Kester Black soaps are completely free from palm oil and do not contain any parabens, sulfates or petrochemicals."

What's your favourite colour? Head to her site for the full range.

    AUTHOR

Thinking about all I've written and said about Jayne Reid.

I'm writing this because she's going far away,
So something profound I want to say,
So Jayne Reid if I may,
You are the only person I know, who has truly "lived her life her way."

In spite of the highest highs, and lowest lows,
Onward and forever upward she goes,
    How far nobody knows!
