FOUND IN MILAN.

Another find not actually from Milan, but shining bright with its Italian contemporaries. Moser is the love child of Ludwig Moser, though Moser the product, is far too old to be child. Founded in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic in 1857, this brand has definitely earned it's stripes and place on the international stage. With a range consisting of classic and contemporary styles in glassware, vases, bowls and accessories the chance of finding something you love is not difficult.

BRAVO

I found lots of fabulous homewares in Milan, and for some reason I suddenly feel overwhelmed with my desire to share them, so I've decided to do a bit of a FOUND IN MILAN series this week.

I'd love to share the 'La Familia' series of wooden containers by Bravo. I discovered these in Milan but Bravo is actually a small company based in chile. Bravo means 'well done' in Spanish but in this instance this name has a broader meaning, and is in fact the surname of Rodrigo and Matthias; two main men behind the brand. They "seek innovation through simplicity and functionality to create objects and unique solutions…" they work with traditional local carpenters and use "the finest" raw materials.

The 'La Familia' series of containers created by Bravo, combine fine wood from patagonia and copper. They are simplistic shapes which can be combined in many ways to create useful, functional containers which are also beautiful to look at and touch. It's a modular system which has 9 basic parts that can create more than 40 different objects. Each of these have different shapes and capabilities and personality.

ELLA LUNA

Strolling through Printemps as you do when in Paris, I discovered Ella Luna. I instantly loved it. Stylish, sophisticated, yet fun, fresh and quirky. Only problem, - you need to have killer legs to wear it!

The details are understated yet impactful. Quality fabrics stunning to touch, sequins, pops of metallic, bands of colour, flowing lines. I wanted the whole range! Only a very small section is dedicated to Ella Luna in Printemps ladies fashion, but even so it grabbed me and held me captive. I spoke with the sales girl who just happens to work at the office too. "Oh Ella is wonderful" she said as her face lit up…I loved hearing that and to know it is an operation small enough for the sales staff to have a connection with the designer and production team.

Just love it and think it really celebrates what it is to a woman. Strong, individual, unique and feminine.

A PORTUGUESE LOVE AFFAIR

"Stick to what you know" is common advice given to those starting up a business. Olga Cruchinho and Dina Martins have done exactly that, bringing their home favourites from Portugal to London.

"A Portuguese Love Affair was born from our wish to share the best things made in Portugal. To share childhood memories, unforgettable flavours and the essence of being Portuguese."

Just over a year old now, the "love affair" is flourishing in Columbia Road, especially on Sundays when the street is filled with people brought in by the stunning and abundant flower markets. You'll find an eclectic mix of household goods (wooden toys, notebooks, soap, teapots, small dishes…) and groceries (sardines, condiments, salt, toothpaste…) all stacked neatly, and popping with colour. All just too inviting to leave empty handed, and judging from the line to pay, everyone seemed to feel the same way. It's a love affair alright, and it seems to be contagious.

ACE HOTEL. I must admit that I haven't actually stayed here, but did check out a few of the rooms and enjoyed their raw industrial feel. I returned a number of times to enjoy the public spaces. I've been for a drink, a coffee and to hang out, work and use the wifi. It's definitely one hip place - the interior spaces, staff and guests. It's a thirty something's space where the overriding aesthetic and mood is super relaxed. The guy behind the bar was so relaxed that we laughed at the prospect of ever getting the Prosecco we ordered. It came eventually. Service is definitely not the point, and nobody seems to mind, the place is full of people together yet separate working away on the communal tables, and couples chatting discretely. The Dj keeps the mood inspired yet diverse, the coffee station meets continuous demand, and the guys at reception will serve you when they can. A place to enjoy when you have no time restraints, give in to the flow and enjoy the ride.

    AUTHOR

Thinking about all I've written and said about Jayne Reid.

I'm writing this because she's going far away,
So something profound I want to say,
So Jayne Reid if I may,
You are the only person I know, who has truly "lived her life her way."

In spite of the highest highs, and lowest lows,
Onward and forever upward she goes,
    How far nobody knows!
