You simply must visit. Punto.

It's modern day genius. I've spent days visiting galleries and being overwhelmed by the talents of the Renaissance greats,  and today I found myself mesmerised by Alessandro's creations. They are inspired and the detail is mind blowing. He somehow manages to encapsulate all that is quintessentially Florence in the form of a ring. I'm truly lost for words.
YOU.
MUST.
VISIT.
And pause at each piece and truly appreciate the design, detail and inspiration that is before you.

REINHARD PLANK

It was time to cross the bridge over to the Santo Spirto area of Florence. The Wallpaper guide suggested it so it must be worthwhile right! And right they were. The feeling is different here and it's immediately evident. My first find - Reinhard Plank. A tiny little shop filled with hats and plenty of bang! Style and quality. The perfection combination.

I chatted with the sales assistant and learned as much as I could about the man behind this inspired millinery. Although German by birth Reinhard produces his hats in Florence, the true birth place of the craft. She explained that many are one off hand crafted pieces, whereas others are created from preformed shells. It's so much more that a shop with hats, it's a gallery of art. Each piece deserves specific focus and attention. I wanted to touch them all, and felt the passion which inspired them and allowed them to be so beautiful.

“Glück ist wo Hüte sind.“ – Luck is, where hats are. I have no doubt that all that own one of his hats feel very lucky indeed! If you find yourself in Florence you really must come and visit. Even though you can find stockists around the world this is his only shop and being in this space is true visual nourishment.

FOUND AT PHILLIP ISLAND

As if warm weather, beach, long walks, swimming and freshly squeezed 'Immunity' juice from Fresh Fix wasn't enough, I discovered some of Jai Vasicek's work today and I am definitely in love. Thanks to the girls at Neon Circus and Sarsaparilla and their genuis sourcing skills, a small selection of Jai's work found it's way into my day and I haven't stopped smiling since.

He has a love of the sea and spent much of his childhood sailing around the world. Looking at his work you can see and sense the influence of sea and culture, of religion, tribal impulses, Polynesia, South America, time past and present, all mixed together with colour, detail and joy.

Based in Byron Bay, Jai creates paintings, murals, cushions, tiles and crosses to adorn his own store Ahoy Trader, and provide specialty individual pieces to boutiques, home owners, designers throughout the country and abroad. "In-demand, on-trend and constantly evolving, Jai Vasicek is one of Australia's most exciting and collectable designers" one day into discovering his work I have no doubt that this is true, and know I will continue to follow and enjoy his work.

    AUTHOR

Thinking about all I've written and said about Jayne Reid.

I'm writing this because she's going far away,
So something profound I want to say,
So Jayne Reid if I may,
You are the only person I know, who has truly "lived her life her way."

In spite of the highest highs, and lowest lows,
Onward and forever upward she goes,
    How far nobody knows!
