On a whim I got off at Rennes Metro station. I wanted to retrace my time with Georgi because it had disappeared so quickly. I came out of the station, and found the final stages of a market - the Raspail market. I walked through as they were all packing up - evidence of great food, bakery goods, cheese, meat…and then I saw some wooden bowls. There were only a few on display because most had been packed away. They were beautiful and perfectly formed.
I met Helene. Her Irish husband Desmond Corcoran creates these perfect pieces on their property in Brittany, a 5 hour drive north west of Paris, a trip they do each week. They are relatively new to France, just two years. He trained in Vermont and spent 26 years in New York.
The range includes bowls, cups, boxes, chopping boards and furniture, in maple, wedge, and walnut. Simplistic beauty.
For the moment their website is in French, but just by chance the English version is due to be live within the next few days, and the good news is that they have an online store!
