If you're after the perfect mix of tradition, style and sophistication then The Wolseley is for you. We arrived for afternoon tea, and so started the procession of silver onto the table…tea pots, jugs, jam pots, cutlery, cake stands. It was old world greatness at its best. And the food? Delicious. Every mouthful definitely worth having and for us wheat sensitive types? Our own mountain of goodness that was every bit as good as the real thing.
Chatting away with my local friends I discovered that the owners of the The Wolseley were the previous owners of the Ivy Restaurant. It's an unimportant yet interesting little detail. They bought the site, previously the home of Wolseley Motors, hence the name. In 1921 it was the most prestigious car showroom in London's West End. The grand, atmospheric interior with towering pillars, arches and stairways were designed by architect William Curtis Green in 1921. In 2003 it become The Wolseley we know today, restored and renovated by David Collins Architecture.
